Roguesignation Ladder – Course Project

2-Month Academic Assignment

Roguesignation Ladder is a screen-based, rock–paper–scissors roguelike game in which you climb office floors to deliver your resignation letter to the boss.

My Roles

  • Level Designer: selected free assets; created three distinct screen-based maps; positioned lighting, characters, and optimized camera angles to enhance level presentation.
  • Scrum Facilitator: managed sprint planning and facilitated communication between the team and the professor.
  • Game Designer: organized design reviews and produced a one-pager for professor approval.
  • Associate Producer: orchestrated sprint planning, facilitated cross-team communication, organized task breakdowns, and documented meeting outcomes to keep the project on track.

Challenges

Limited asset pool; lack of predefined level constraints requiring screen-based layouts rather than traditional playable levels; complex idea sharing among team members; and preserving the game vision while reducing scope.

Lessons Learned

I learned that screen-based level design is more akin to art than traditional 2D/3D layouts; that the Scrum Master (and potential Producer) role is highly rewarding for fostering team autonomy rather than directive leadership; and that a dedicated artist is crucial, even with abundant high-quality assets available online.
